About Us
Building homes, communities, and hope across Uganda since 1982.
Who we are
Habitat for Humanity Uganda (HFHU) is a locally registered, ecumenical Christian NGO affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. Since 1982, we have worked to eliminate poverty housing in Uganda so that everyone has a safe, decent place to call home.
Together with families, volunteers, communities, government and private sector partners, HFHU has built, rehabilitated or improved more than 40,000 houses, providing simple and affordable shelter to over 240,000 families, supported more than 6,000 youth to acquire vocational skills, and improved access to clean water, hygiene and sanitation for over 1.5 million people.
What We Stand For
Six pillars of our work to ensure every family has a safe, decent place to call home.
Decent & affordable housing
New construction, repairs and home improvements for families who would otherwise not afford a safe home.
Water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH)
Rainwater harvesting, household sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion.
Secure land tenure & property rights
Legal support, land rights awareness and will writing for vulnerable households.
Housing disaster risk reduction
Helping communities prepare for, withstand and recover from floods, landslides and other shocks.
Advocacy & partnerships
Working with government, NGOs, churches and the private sector to influence housing and land policies.
Livelihood & vocational skills
Training in masonry, carpentry and tailoring so families can earn sustainable incomes.
